Title : CORONOSIS: Corona Prognosis through A Global Lens to Enable Efficient Policy Making
Description : Epidemics are not a new phenomenon in the history of mankind. Russian Plague, Spanish Flu, H1N1 Swine Flu, etc., are the names of some notable epidemics that already caused major impacts upon mankind. Now, in the year of 2020, we are going through a pandemic caused by a virus named COVID-19. This virus is testing the whole of mankind with an experience that the history of mankind perhaps has never faced. For the first time in human history, almost the whole of mankind on earth is undergoing a universal lockdown. The deadly impact of COVID-19 started in China, and from there, it spread all over the world including Bangladesh. Annihilating impacts of this virus is now the main focus of the world leaders, policy makers, and scientists. As the virus is making an agonizing impact on the socio-economic conditions of many countries, new plans need to be made by the leaders and policymakers for different sectors such as the trading, banking, education, etc., to minimize the damage and to recover quickly. For efficient policy-making, some of the prerequisites are historical data on spreading of the virus, its future prediction, correlation among the spreading and different various socio-economic factors, etc. Even though various sources such as John Hopkins University, Worldometer, etc., are currently providing daily reports, live updates, etc., they are yet to provide future predictions as well as analytics on correlation among various socio-economic factors. To this extent, we, the CORONOSIS team, have been developing a web-based integrated operational dashboard (web link: http://coronosis.live/) as a one-stop decision support system through providing future predictions (local as well as global) and analytics in forms of intelligent maps, graph-charts, info-graphs, and other analyses for COVID-19, which dig out global as well as country-wise spreading contexts of COVID-19 through a global context. We conduct data-driven analyses based on available data from diversified authenticated sources to predict the upcoming consequences of COVID-19 using different machine learning techniques and mathematical modeling approaches. We have incorporated our initial findings and have launched our first version of CORONOSIS to the public on April 19, 2020. We were first all over the globe to present such outcomes, to the best of our knowledge. CORONOSIS has already experienced more than 6.5 K visits by users from several different countries. In the latest version of CORONOSIS, our currently featured future predictions cover at least two upcoming days, a week, and a month ahead. We envision CORONOSIS to be sustainable and scalable to all extents. We have plans to technologically scale up CORONOSIS to a public cloud service with more resources in future. Besides, we plan for social scaling of CORONOSIS through omni-channel communication in order to reach every sector of mass communication such as different governments and policymakers as well as all forms of social media, newspapers, and research collaborations. Nonetheless, we plan to make CORONOSIS sustainable through designing and developing it in such a way that we can adapt to analytics of any future epidemic or pandemic to it. We plan to incorporate rigorous country-specific modeling with more contemporary and future correlating factors over the period of time ahead to exhibit its sustainable adaptability. We will keep CORONOSIS open for research and education purposes. However, we plan to offer paid subscriptions to CORONOSIS and its data for business purposes to ensure its financial sustainability in future.
