Description
: The COVID-19 outbreak in Bangladesh has exposed the fragile social safety net which fails to protect impoverished and low-wage earners of our nation. The virus infects people regardless of their economic status but the probability of exposure to the virus is much higher in the case of daily wage earners and poverty stricken sections of our society. These vulnerable communities are bearing the economic brunt of the crisis as they are faced with mobility restrictions, expensive medical care, price hike of daily necessities and no savings to fall back to in case of losing their jobs. Due to the lack of resources to protect and prepare against the pandemic, these marginalized people face higher risk of contracting and spreading the virus. Immediate actions as well as long-term solutions are needed for ensuring adequate food and nutrition, supply of basic medicine and providing a safety net for families and workers whose livelihoods are affected as the crisis can prevail for several months. Both government and non-profit organizations are operating to distribute resources among the at risk communities. There are also individuals willing to help people by donating money, food, necessities and basic medical care.
Our web application aims to provide a way to help these Volunteers/Organizations streamline their efforts by giving access to information of locations affected by COVID-19 on a map.
Features include:
Constructing and displaying clusters of areas that have positive cases of COVID-19.
Pinpoint areas that are receiving support by disinfection, medical support, food and essential relief.
Pinpoint areas which are classified as lock-down, hot spot and high-risk.
Pinpoint areas that have a risk of being infected with COVID-19
Listing relief requests from affected areas
Affected individuals can seek/request for support with their location information
Our aim is to provide location information to the government, volunteers/organizations and individuals for identifying areas at risk in order to provide support. The transparency of such information will minimize the chances of relief opportunities being corrupted. Organizations and prospective donors will be able to locate areas that are receiving little to no help through map information. COVID-19 affected individuals can also request for food/essentials, medical support and emergency transport for their specific area by sharing their location and contact information. As the map will show locations of lock-down, high risk and hot spot areas, it will be easier to predict and allocate resources for areas requiring immediate support and its scale. We will also display relief activities that have already been deployed to areas with its execution date and the number of people helped in order to help mandating relief to the people most in need.
Through our web application, we hope to connect community volunteers, NGOs and other development organizations with vulnerable sections of people requiring relief. Bangladesh is well known for her resilience, and as a nation we have surpassed many obstacles in the past despite the odds. Collaborative effort of the government and nation’s people will help us survive the worst effects of this global crisis.
